So, the Guwahati Ropeway across the Brahmaputra, connecting the Southern and Northern banks of the Brahmaputra river, has been recently opened for the general public and has become a popular tourist attraction. So, here are some quick details about it in case you visit.

What Exactly is the Guwahati Ropeway?

It is a ropeway across the Brahmaputra River. It connects the Northern and Southern banks of Guwahati. If you are new to Guwahati, you should know that the main city is mostly on the Southern side while the Northern side is growing somewhat nowadays.

What Can We See from the Ropeway?

The ropeway gives a panoramic view of Guwahati, the Brahmaputra, and the surrounding hills. It can be a good experience that gives you an understanding of the geography of the city and also gives you some interesting aerial, drone-like shots without actually using one. You will also see Umananda Island, a small river island with a temple.

How Long is the Guwahati Ropeway?

It is 1.8 KMs long. The Brahmaputra is a vast river. So, you can expect it to be a pretty long ride lasting around 10 minutes. Someone told me it is one of the longest in the country be I can’t verify it.

Where Exactly is the Guwahati Ropeway Located?

On the south bank, it is located just on the opposite side of Nehru Park. This is a busy area with many major landmarks of Guwahati including the High Court and the Cotton College. On the Northern side, it is near Rajadwar village, behind Dolgovinda which is a popular temple.

What are the daily Timings for the Guwahati Ropeway?

It is generally open every day but is closed on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. So, keep that in mind.

30 (+ 1 operator) can fit in one of these cars at one time.

 

How much time does it take to cross over the river with the Guwahati Ropeway?

It takes around 8-9 minutes to cross the river.

 

What are the Ticket Prices for the Guwahati Ropeway?

One-way Ticket INR 60

Two-way Ticket INR 100

What is the Validity of a Two-Way Ticket for Guwahati Ropeway?

However, do note that the validity of a two-way ticket is only 3 hrs and you need to come back within that time. Also, no two-way ticket is issued for the second half after 12.30 PM. So, you need to get that in the morning if you want to use it.

Are there parking spaces at the Guwahati Ropeway?

Yes, there is parking on both sides. Here are the capacities.

Lower Terminal (South Guwahati) 100 cars & 80 two-wheelers

Upper Terminal (North Guwahati)  70 cars & 80 two-wheelers

How to Make the Most of Guwahati Ropeway?

While this is just a novelty project for local tourists, you can use it for better explorations. By going to North Guwahati, you can explore many historical temples in the Northern Banks. Also, you can club it with a visit to the river island of Umananda (which you can also see from the ropeway). There are boat services available for that nearby Uzan Bazar (Ask people for directions to the port).
